Israel has no defense for spending so much on the army
At the beginning of January, when the Nagel committee issued its recommendations for sharply increasing defense spending over the next decade, its conclusions already looked outdated. Its dark view of a vulnerable Israel beset by powerful and bloodthirsty enemies bent on its destruction clearly mirrored the worldview engendered by the post-October 7 trauma.
