Israeli businessman Yossi Maiman, a natural gas tycoon and former controlling shareholder of Channel 10 (now Channel 13), died on Saturday at the age of 75.

Maiman died in his home in Herzliya, leaving three children and his wife behind. He was born in Germany but grew up in Peru, and immigrated to Israel in 1971 after working for ExonnMobil and Citibank.

In 1975 Maiman founded the Israeli-based multinational group Merhav, doing business in agriculture, transportation, gas and oil.

In Israel, Maiman was known as the owner of Channel 10 until it merged in 2018 with Reshet. He was also known for his shares in the Egyptian EMG pipeline, which runs 90 kilometers mostly offshore Sinai, originally built to export Egyptian gas to Israel.

In recent years, Maiman was suspected of serving as an intermediary for a $20-million bribe to former Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo.
