The mayor of Rio de Janeiro perceived a top respect postulated by a internal Jewish village for his support of Jewish issues in Brazil’s second-largest city.
Marcelo Crivella perceived a Friend of a Rio de Janiero State Jewish Federation, or FIERJ medal, during a mayor’s central bureau on Wednesday.
A fervently pro-Israel devout Christian clergyman, Crivella has upheld several Jewish projects in Rio, including a stream construction of a Holocaust memorial. The city supposing a land and Crivella laid a cornerstone.
“Our city is enlarged, ennobled and cool with a Jewish participation to this palace, remembering a principles, a values. We owe we a lot,” Crivella said.
Several Jewish leaders and supervision officials attended a ceremony.
“There was never such a crony of Israel and a Jewish village in City Hall,” Israel’s Rio-based titular consul, Osias Wurman, told JTA.
Crivella reportedly has visited Israel 40 times.
Last month, Rio’s initial lady, Sylvia Crivella, represented a mayor during a loyalty of a block named for a Lubavitcher Rebbe located in a heavily Jewish neighborhood.
