Battling injustice, Gal Gadot takes Elle front cover

  • October 19, 2021

Israel movie star Gal Gadot has been given a place of honor on the front cover of the November issue of Elle Magazine, which is dedicated to “Women in Hollywood.”

The worldwide lifestyle monthly said of Gadot that the “star’s biggest superpower is her willingness to stand up — for herself and others.”

Others featured in the tribute to Hollywood women are Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Lauren Ridloff, Salma Hayek, Jodie Comer, Halle Berry, Rita Moreno, and Jennifer Hudson. Each of the stars has been given her own separate cover on the issue.

“I am so excited to be a part of Elle’s 2021 women in Hollywood issue and honored to be sharing it with such an amazing inspiring group of women,” Gadot wrote Monday in a Facebook post.

“Thank you for having me ELLE…and for letting me roll around in the grass,” she said, referring to photos that show Gadot sprawled on a lawn in a bright yellow coat.

For the cover photo, Gadot poses in the same coat, though upright and against a wall.

In an accompanying interview with Elle, Gadot, of Wonder Woman fame, talked of her dedication to what Elle described as “righteousness, and rightness.”

She spoke of her reported clashes with director Joss Whedon on the set of his “Justice League” movie. The Hollywood Reporter reported in April 2021 that Whedon had threatened Gadot’s career when she complained about some of her lines and that he later bragged about putting her down.

Asked by Elle about how she responded to Whedon at the time, Gadot said she immediately went on the offensive.

“Oh, I was shaking trees as soon as it happened,” she said. “And I must say that the heads of Warner Brothers, they took care of it…. Going back to the sense of righteousness that I have… you’re dizzy because you can’t believe this was just said to you. And if he says it to me, then obviously he says it to many other people. I just did what I felt like I had to do. And it was to tell people that it’s not okay.”

She added, “My sense of justice is very strong.”

Gadot also spoke about other movies she has worked on, including “Red Notice,” due for release in November, in which she plays an art thief alongside Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne Johnson.

“She can go toe to toe with pretty much anybody, even a skin-covered mountain like Dwayne Johnson,” Reynolds told Elle.

Gadot was previously on the front cover of the November 2017 edition of Elle. In October 2020 she graced the front cover of Vanity Fair.
