Emirati firm sends massive vacuum unit to Iraqi refinery

  • February 03, 2022

A United Arab Emirates-based company has shipped a massive vacuum unit to a refinery in Iraq.

The Sharjah-based port operator Gulftainer brought the 121-ton, 35-meter-long vacuum to its Iraq Container located in the southern port city of Umm Qasr this week. The vacuum was made for the UAE-based Midland Refineries Company and will be used in an oil refinery in the Iraqi city of Najaf, also in the south, the official Emirates News Agency reported today.

Gulftainer’s managing director for Iraq said the company has emerged from the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely disrupted the global supply chain.

“Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we have seen a steady uptick in business, with the latest shipment marking a significant turning point for us,” said Nic Gray, according to the Emirates News Agency.

Large vacuums can be used for air purification and cleaning jobs, among other purposes.

Gulftainer’s port in Umm Qasr is the only one in Iraq that can handle large containers. It opened in 2012 and is close to several oil fields in southern Iraq, according to the company’s website.
