Israeli parents take part in broad call to join Global Climate Strike on Friday

Israeli parents have joined counterparts from 18 other countries to support young climate activists planning to take to the streets on Friday for the Global Climate Strike being called by FridaysForFuture.

“Part of a community of mothers, parents and relatives all around the world, we have joined together to create a video calling all adults to support the global day of climate action – online, or on the streets,” said Parents for Future — Global, whose Israeli branch is called Parents for Climate.

A video clip issued Wednesday by Parents for Future — Global features mothers and fathers from different continents warning that “our house is on fire,” and that “we need to protect the lives of every child living on this planet.”

A mother from Germany says, “We’re still busy maintaining our comfortable lives, ignoring that our wealth is built on the exploitation of other people and on the destruction of the natural world.”

Says a mother from Poland, “Here, many children are suffering from pollution but our government still wants us to bet on burning fossil fuels.”

From India, a mother opines, “So many things have happened in the past one year. I don’t understand what it will take for our decision makers to take climate action seriously.”

And a mother from Israel says, “We know that every country and every state, as small is it might be, can make an impact and has the responsibility to do so.”

In Israel, Youth for Climate will be protesting, as they do every Friday, at locations throughout the country.

Extinction Rebellion, Parents for Future, Teachers for Climate, Green Course (higher education students) and others regularly demonstrate on Saturdays.

FridaysForFuture is a youth-led movement that began in August 2018, after  Greta Thunberg, then 15, and other young activists sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis.
