  • March 03, 2021

Israel’s Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer has been ranked by Newsweek as one of the top 10 hospitals in the world for a third straight year.

The Ramat Gan-based hospital, which is affiliated with Tel Aviv University, was No. 10 on the list, down one spot from 2020. The hospital was also ranked No. 10 in 2019.

“To be nominated and ranked among the Top 10 World’s Best Hospitals for three consecutive years underscores Israel’s image as a small country with world-class medicine,” Sheba director Yitzhak Kreiss said in a statement.

He added: “This honor is also a testament to our dedicated staff, which has worked tirelessly to utilize cutting-edge medical treatments, treating patients from all walks of life during these challenging times, offering hope without boundaries.”

Sheba was also ranked by Newsweek as the top hospital in Israel.

Again topping the list of the top hospitals in the world this year was the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. It was followed by Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital, Canada’s Toronto General, Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Berlin’s Charite’ research-based university hospital, Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, Singapore General Hospital and Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois in Switzerland.

The magazine said the hospitals were included on the list for “their consistent excellence, including distinguished physicians, top-notch nursing care and state-of-the-art technology.”

Newsweek worked with Statista Inc., a market research and consumer data company, to develop the rankings.
