Palestinian reportedly tries to stab troops at West Bank bus stop, is shot

A Palestinian man was shot as he attempted to stab soldiers at a bus stop in the central West Bank on Monday, Israeli officials said.

No Israeli injuries were reported. The alleged assailant’s condition was not immediately known.

Video footage from the scene showed the alleged assailant lying on the ground but moving, after having been shot next to a bus stop full of soldiers near the Gush Etzion Junction in the central West Bank.

The Israel Defense Forces said it had received initial reports of an attempted stabbing attack at the site and was still looking into the matter.

The alleged assailant was shot as he tried to stab someone, according to the ZAKA emergency response service.

It was not immediately clear who shot the suspect — one of the soldiers at the bus stop or an armed bystander.

The reported attack came amid a general lull in attacks by Palestinians against Israeli soldiers and civilians in the West Bank, following a rise in violence at the end of last year.
