The Palestine Briefing: The forgotten Gazans

  • November 09, 2022

While many were focused on the results of the Israeli elections and the connections between the success of a far-right Israeli coalition that includes outright racists and the potential of a future alliance between incoming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former US President Donald Trump, Gazans were dealing with the deaths of many of their people.

The deaths in the Mediterranean of boat riders wanting to get to Europe have come home with tragic results. Gazan youth, desperate over their miserable lives and knowing full well that they have no future in their own country, joined others in trying to cross into Southern Europe.

Palestinian media told the stories of dozens of young people dying in the sea, with a focus on middlemen who used the desires of young Gazans to try and seek a better life in Europe. Palestinian embassies in Tunisia, Greece, Italy and other locations reported the stories, names and terrible tragedies that befell fellow Palestinians trying to ride the waves on unsafe boats from the North African shores.
