An improvised explosive device went off in southern Syria on Tuesday, killing two civilians. The IED exploded in Jubata Al Khashab in the Quneitra province when the two civilians hit it with their vehicle, the official SANA news outlet reported.
SANA said it was unknown who planted the IED. A leader in the Syrian Revolutionaries Front was assassinated in the area in June, the Syrian news outlet Baladi News reported in a Tuesday article on the IED blast.
Other unclaimed attacks have taken place in Syrian government territory recently. Two security personnel were killed in a drive-by shooting on Monday. Earlier this month, a rebel group claimed credit for an explosion on a military bus that killed the driver.
Quneitra is controlled by the Syrian government and borders the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. Most of the south is regime territory, though rebel groups control some areas farther south near the Jordanian border. The battle for the remaining rebel territories in the south has intensified in recent weeks.
