Rivlin: We will never pardon and never forget

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Saturday night responded to Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s Thursday criticism that a crimes of a Holocaust can be forgiven.

“We can forgive, though we can't forget. That quote is mine. Those that forget their past are condemned not to have a future,” Bolsonaro pronounced then.

In response, Rivlin tweeted, “What Amalek did to us stamped in a memory, a memory of an ancient people. We will never assist those who repudiate a law or those who wish to obliterate a memory – not people or groups, not celebration leaders or primary ministers.”

“We will never pardon and never forget. No-one will sequence a redemption of a Jewish people, and it can never be bought in a name of interests.

“The Jewish people will always quarrel anti-Semitism and xenophobia. Political leaders are obliged for moulding a future. Historians report a past and investigate what happened. Neither should wandering into a domain of a other.”
