Beyoncé wears Israeli-designed looks in new filmed album

  • August 07, 2020

There’s a load of messages in pop diva Beyoncé’s “Black Is King,” her newly released visual album (basically a feature-length music video), as well as an extravaganza of fashion on display from designers worldwide, including three lucky Israelis.

The album is a tie-in to Beyoncé’s 2019 album, “The Lion King: The Gift,” curated by the singer-songwriter for the 2019 remake of “The Lion King.”

Each song in “Black Is King” (available on Disney+) has Beyoncé arrayed in dozens of different looks, whether a cheetah-print bodysuit (Valentino couture), a cowhide cow print (Burberry), or a white crocheted gown (Alon Livne), and it just grows exponentially from there.

Livne is one of the three Israeli designers whose looks made it into “Black Is King.” The well-known wedding dress designer has collaborated with the singer before, when she wore his much-commented on red Freakum dress for her 2013 world tour.

The other two Israeli designers outfitting Queen Bey, as the much beloved Beyoncé is known by fans, are Shahar Avnet and Avy Avram, both graduates of the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.

Avnet, known for her innovative work with vibrantly colored organza, has dressed Beyoncé before, while still working out of her small Tel Aviv studio.

A young designer who also graduated from Shenkar, Avnet’s career has skyrocketed with the Beyoncé stamp of approval, bringing her a wider clientele among Israeli performers, including Eurovision 2018 winner Netta Barzilai.

Avy Amram is a more recent Shenkar graduate, but also caught the eye of Beyoncé’s stylist, and dressed her in a glitzy, metallic motorcycle outfit.

The Israel connection is strong for Beyoncé. She wore a plunging white bodysuit by Israeli designer Inbal Dror at the 2016 Grammy Awards, and collaborated with Jerusalemite producer Natan Schottenfels on “Apeshit – The Carters,” a dazzling video filmed in the Louvre for musical power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

For her 2018 wedding vow renewal ceremony, Beyoncé wore a wedding dress by Israeli designer Galia Lahav.
